Grom Life - Week 1 (100mpg of Badass)

Here it is our new 2015 Honda Grom 125. I thought this would be a great way to commute back and forth to work here in the Austin hill country and I’ll be damned I was right !

At the moment it’s stock with adjustable levers I just got the other day. The reason I was so quick to change the levers is the fact that if you have small hands (my gf) it’s pretty hard to work the clutch when only a few fingers can get to it. So that’s done and it’s made a big change for the better.

I must say I never thought we’d be able to ride 2up on the grom but it handles it well. VERY VERY surprising for a 125 to tote around 280lbs up and down the hills of west Austin. Even holds its own in the dirt.. If you squint your eyes it almost looks like there’s water in Lake Travis.

It only took about half a big blue to install both levers . They are cheap and from China but they do the job. I’m thinking I could put a spacer in the clutch side to make it less floppy but I’ll report back on how well that worked next time.

Then I got some more parts for the datsun . Little Longacre shifter for the T56 and a new knob that fits like shit but will get the job done I suppose. Can’t always win buying car parts off amazon.. smh. Now I just need to find some motivation to work on the damn datsun.

All the while kicking ass at work. Taking how the CSOM (rep of the month) and EPE (best customer service) awards two months in a row and I’m doing my best to make it 3.

Anyhow I hope this is the last time I’ve gotta change my Oppo name. But IT guys will be IT guys even if that means wiping my computer clean every few months .. Sucks to suck I suppose.

This amazes me. I was there ~2 years ago and I was just floored by how far down the lake was. We were at the Austin Yacht Club and the old docking area was dozens of feet from the water. Just crazy.

Also, I was at a meet-up last weekend and there was a guy there giving people rides. I didn’t even realize they came with pegs before then.

This photo was taken at the Yacht Club last week ! and since we've got another 3 inches or rain ! It’ s very nice to see the lake finally starting to recover after the last few years I really thought we may lose it completely for awhile.

I pay a 100 bucks a month and save about 85 in gas each month . So it actually cost me about 15 a month for the bike and another 40 for insurance.. If you fill your tank once or twice a week this thing pays for itself !

Have you taken on the interstate yet? I would love to have one for my commute to work, but my trip is about 10 miles on the interstate and I don’t want to get run over by the dumbasses trying to eat their breakfast and steering with their knee at 80mph.

Stretched Groms look great but for me it doesn’t make any sense at all. The reason being is that it only makes 9hp so the stretch is only for looks at the cost of performance .. Especially when you think of how much turning you lose

hehe, yea. The company I teach with uses these things as part of their fleet. its great. I’m basicly paid to spend all day on one. (not actually, i have to teach and coach...but still, its alot of fun.

I paid 4000 OTD exactly with a 5 year NO MILEAGE WARRANTY !!! Props to Honda because I’ve never heard of a company offering a 5 year no mileage cap warranty. Now keep in mind the MSRP is 3199 plus 199 freight. The first dealership quoted me 4560 for a red one that I didn’t want and then tried to hard close the shit out of me. I told them no even tho I really really wanted it ... And found one the next day 15 miles up the road in the color I wanted White and with 0 miles instead of 15 miles .. Now if you can hold off till mid to end of summer to buy your grom do it because it will save you 500 bucks . But if you want it and have to have it now you’ll pay around 4k . I only put 600 down. At 17.3% per year. I’ll be paying it off in the next year and half so I don’t have too much interest but that’s about it.

about the same it all depends on what you qualify for but I put 600 down on 4000 and pay 100 bucks a month with no penalty to pay it off before then like you would a car.

Well I’ve got one of those too, lol. Currently yanked out of my WS6 for a rebuild. Sadly, no spare cam there either. Now if you had an old Pontiac 455, then that’d be another story.
